Who We Are
We are a coffee roasting company dedicated to ethically sourcing and roasting high quality, delicious coffee. We believe each coffee has its own distinct, inherent flavors depending on where it was grown and how it was processed. Our aim is to roast it in a way that highlights those flavors.
Why We Do It: Our Mission
We operate in the coffee industry, but we want to operate in the industry of improving lives. We use coffee as a means to achieve this. There is great need and great opportunity for us to help provide clean water.
Access to clean drinking water is essential to life. Without it, families walk for miles to get water which makes them sick, spend resources on medication and struggle to get their kids in school. Righty now, approximately 771 million or 1 out of every 10 people do not have access to safe water.
Good News: This crisis is correctable. Even within our lifetime.
Opening a roastery quickly became my dream, but as a college student, I didn’t have much money to spare for such a venture. Despite this limitation, I continued to roast coffee at home after graduation, always chasing that amazing cup and the dream of sharing it with others. All of my efforts finally led to a call, several years after graduation, between Tyler and me, during which I asked Tyler if he would join me in purchasing my first commercial grade coffee roaster. To my surprise, Tyler agreed and Chroma Coffee was formed.
What We Are Doing To Help
We are giving one dollar for every bag of coffee we sell towards the purchase and installation of hollow-fiber membrane, water filters through the company Filter of Hope. What are hollow-fiber membrane filters? Great question, here is how they work:
Every small filter is filled with tiny, perforated tubes, which are 0.1 microns in diameter. Contaminated water passes through these tubes and exits the tubes as clean drinkable water. Contaminates, including dirt, bacteria etc., are simply too large to fit through the tubes. As a result, they stay in the filter and get removed with regular back flushing.
